About hammerdirt

Hammerdirt is a collection of work that has followed two trajectories over the past 10 years. On one hand, we have followed the evolution of citizen science to its logical conclusion. We completed a national survey with the federal government in 2022. On the other hand, AI and ML processes have caused us to re-evaluate how we use data. So, hammerdirt is also about collecting observations and putting them in the current AI/ML context.

Observation is the first step in the scientific method. The more observations we can make, the better we can understand the world around us. This leverages citizen participation in a very positive way. Even if the news is not good, we can at least consider all the options.
